Latin for "God Wills It" - Historically seen as the battle cry of the Crusaders in the 11th Century. The saying embodies the belief that their efforts to retake the Holy Land would be divinely supported.
The earliest recorded instance of the phrase appears in "Gesta Francorum," a chronicle of the First Crusade and could have derived from Deus lo vult which was a Roman language.
